Low-Carb Burgers with Brie and Avocado
These Low-Carb Burgers with Brie and Avocado are inspired by a burger I thought up and ordered at The WORKS Gourmet Burger Bistro in Brampton. I was looking for a lighter burger option and opted for a 100% beef burger on a lettuce leaf and topped with some of my favourite toppings: brie, avocado, tomato and onion. It was the best burger I have ever tasted! Wanting to reproduce the same burger at home I created this recipe, which is very similar to the one I had. The recipe features a thick, juicy beef burger on top of a green lettuce leaf topped with creamy avocado, melted brie, fresh tomato and red onion. This is now my go-to burger recipe!
Tips for Making Perfect Burgers
- Use fresh, organic beef: Fresh organic ground beef makes the most flavourful burgers, however regular beef may be substituted if desired.
- Do not over-mix: When mixing the seasoning into the ground beef, do not knead the beef too much or the burgers will be dense and dry.
- Make an indentation: The indentation made at the centre of each beef patty will ensure the burgers have a level height when cooked.
- Use high-quality mustard: Not all mustard is made alike and there is a huge difference between high-quality mustard and your average grocery store mustard. These burgers taste best when you use high-quality mustard, which you can find at specialty stores or health food stores like Whole Foods.
Recipe Q & A
Q: Can I substitute the lean ground beef for extra-lean?
A: Yes you can. The burgers will still be flavourful, however they will be slightly less juicy due to their lower fat content.
Q: Can I substitute the grape tomatoes for other tomato varieties?
A: Yes you can, however grape tomatoes contribute a delicious sweet flavour to the burgers.
Q: Can I substitute the red onion for other onion varieties?
A: Yes you can. Sweet onion also goes well with these burgers.
